Zamfara Government, Partners commits to Improving Menstrual Hygiene

The Zamfara State Government in collaboration with partners expressed commitment towards improving menstrual hygiene in the state.
The partnership to ensure that women and adolescent-girls in the state can manage their menstruation hygienically.
The Executive Secretary, State Primary Health Care Board (PHCB), Dr Hussaini Yakubu Anka stated this in Gusau at the event to commemorate the 2024 World Menstrual Hygiene Day.
The event was organized by the board in partnership with some partners and Civil Society Organisations.
Dr Yakubu Anka said the event was timely, adding,”we want to make sure that our women and adolescent-girls are properly educated on how they can manage their menstruation hygienically.
”The state government, in collaboration with the partners and other stakeholders will continue to collaborate to enhance sensitisation on menstrual hygiene in the state.
“The state government under Gov. Dauda Lawal appreciates the contributions of partners for supporting various health care delivery programmes in the state.”
He called on parents to allow their children to be vaccinated against cervical cancer.
Anka said, “As I am speaking, the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination exercise is ongoing in this state.
“I am therefore calling on parents and guardians to protect their children against cervical cancer,” the executive secretary explained.
Hajiya Jamila Muhammad from UNICEF, said the event was very important to women.
She said, “As women, we need to sensitise our children on menstrual hygiene considering its importance to our future health.
“On behalf of the partners, we are ever ready to continue to promote the health, education of our children to ensure future development in the society.”
Also speaking, the Executive Director of a CSO, ‘Voluntary Aid Initiative (VAI)’, Mr Musa Umar, expressed the readiness of the CSOs to collaborate with the government and partners towards advancing menstrual hygiene sensitisation in the state.
Umar appealed to the parents to assist their women and children with sensitisation menstrual hygiene and the provision of sanitary pads in order to prevent them from the diseases.
Speaking earlier, the Principal, GGDSS Tudun Wada, Hajiya Zulai Muhammad, urged the students to utilise the opportunity to understand all the presentations during the event.
Muhammad commended the state government and partners for selecting the school to conduct the sensitisation campaign on menstrual hygiene.
“We are lacking adequate WASH facilities in this school, we need additional toilets and an adequate water system.
“We are soliciting for the government’s support to enhance hygienic conditions in this school,” the principal appealed.
